HyperDog Digital offers a competitive VoIP phone service, particularly if your calling patterns include frequent calls to one of a few European or Asian countries. There is an option for either a 1-year contract or a No Contract Plan. With a contract, the monthly charge is $5 less but there is a $50 cancellation fee if you cancel before the year is up.

Service Plan and Fees:   Excellent

HyperDog Digital’s unlimited monthly fee is $19.95 with contract of $24.95 without contract for unlimited calling to the continental United States and Canada. Not that the plan doesn’t include calling to Alaska, Hawaii, or Puerto Rico so that would be a negative point if you frequently call those locations.

On a very positive note, the plan does include unlimited calling to several popular locations in Eurpoe or Asia. You must choose whether you want the European or Asian option. Countries included in unlimited calling to Europe are Italy, France, Spain, the UK and Ireland. If you prefer the Asian plan, calls to China, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan are included.

You can also save money with HyperDog Digital but agreeing to pay for six months of service in advance. Under that plan, you actually pay for five months and the sixth is free. If you choose to return to the default monthly billing plan before the six months are up, you’d be subjected to a $50 penalty.

There’s no activation fee to sign up for HyperDog Digital but you do pay a $50 deposit for the telephone adapter if you need to get it from the company. Upon cancellation of the service, the deposit is refundable if the adapter is returned to HyperDog in good condition in its original packaging. Be careful though, there is a possibility for incurring fees up to $150 if any of the original equipment isn’t returned in good condition, including potentially paying for the original packaging.

Features:   Excellent

Stamdard features include those that we’ve come to expect from VoIP providers. Call Waiting, CallerID, Voicemail, and Call Forwarding are standard. So are Call Hold, Caller ID Blocking, and 3-Way Calling. A nice addition that isn’t too common as a standard feature is Voice to email.

Premium features available for additional fees are Virtual Numbers, Toll-Free numbers, and directory assistance.

Ease of Installation/Setup:   Excellent

Installation and setup are the same as you’d expect from other VoIP service providers. You must have a broadband internet connection already in place. The Analog Telephone Adapter, ATA, is plugged into the broadband modem and your phone is plugged into the ATA. Once accomplished, the phone is used exactly like a traditional landline.

Help/Support:   Excellent

HyperDog Digital’s customer support features are somewhat more extensive than that offered by most other providers in this category. The primary feature advantage is their Remote Assist Interactive Support Tool which will put you in contact with a live technician in an online chat environment. To take advantage of this feature, you must download a live chat application to your computer. The service’s web site also features an extensive FAQ section. Both email and toll-free telephone support are available though, typical of VoIP providers, customer service hours are rather limited.

Summary:

HyperDog Digital offers a feature set that is rather unusual and is worth considering. The real test of whether or not this is the best service for you is how well their offerings meet with your actual calling needs so compare carefully
