Voip.com is your standard VOIP service. They include an Unlimited Monthly calling plan to the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico, a comprehensive set of calling features and competitive international rates. However, we found nothing particularly outstanding with Voip.com and we would have liked to see a customer service email address clearly displayed.

Service Plan and Fees :  

Voip.com’s Unlimited Monthly plan includes unlimited calling to the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico for $19.95 a month. Unlike the #1 and #3 services, Voip.com does not include any international countries in any of their plans. However, they do provide a competitive per minute rate for most international calls.

An adapter is included when you sign up for Voip.com’s service. There is a one-time activation fee of $32.95 and a $39.95 cancellation fee if you discontinue service before one year. The included adapter needs to be returned within 14 days of cancellation otherwise Voip.com will charge you $65.00 equipment fee.

Additional calling plans include Unlimited Yearly, which is identical to the Unlimited Monthly we reviewed except it is billed annually for a marginal price savings and a 200 Minutes per month plan. Additional minutes are 3.9¢.

Features:  

Voip.com includes a wide-range of features you’d expect to see in a typical VOIP service including Call Waiting, Caller ID, 3-Way Calling, Voicemail and more. Most of your features are managed through your account online enabling you to manage the features most important to you.

Although Voip.com’s features are comprehensive we would have like to see some additional bells and whistles like call free directory assistance and fax support.

Ease of Installation/Setup:  

Voip.com requires a high-speed Internet connection like cable or DSL, dial-up will not work. You simply plug-in the VOIP adapter to your home Internet modem and connect your phone to the adapter. Voip.com includes a free adapter when you first sign up for their service. However, you are required to return the adapter if or when you cancel.

Help/Support:  

Voip.com has a troubleshooting, getting started and installation guides; FAQs, a glossary and searchable help. They also have a forum that can address most of your troubles and concerns. Unfortunately, while reading the forums we found quite a few complaints and they are hard to overlook while researching such a service.

We were disappointed that finding a direct email address was so difficult. Voip.com clearly wants you to go through their forums to answer questions before contacting support, a method we find has its pros and cons. However, we found if you click on any of the moderators names you can email that person directly.

Summary:  

Voip.com is your average run-of-the-mill VOIP service. They provide you with all the necessary tools common to traditional phone service at a lesser price. However, we did question their customer support methods.
