Service Plan and Fees:  

Voipgo’s $17.95 monthly plan includes unlimited calling to anywhere in the United States and Canada. Unlike several other plans, it does not include calling to Puerto Rico or other countries. If you choose to pay for a year in advance, the charge is $149.95, which amounts to $12.50 per month. There is no activation fee nor is there specifically a cancellation fee. If, however, you choose the annual plan and cancel before the year is over, all used months will be charged at the standard monthly rate of $17.95.

While there isn’t an activation fee, if you opt to continue using your current phone number, there is a $25.00 fee for porting the number. If you require an Analog Telephone Adapter, ATA, you’ll be charged a $69.95 deposit which is fully refundable presuming that you return it in good condition to the carrier within 14 days of cancelling service. There’s also a $14.95 shipping fee for the adapter which isn’t refundable.

Features:  

Standard features of the voipgo service include CallerID, Call Waiting, Call Forwarding and Voicemail. It also includes 3-Way Calling, Call Return (*69), and a Do Not Disturb function that gives you the option of sending calls directly to Voicemail. You can also use your voipgo account while traveling by taking your laptop and the ATA adapter. As long as you have broadband internet access, you can connect just like you’re at home.

Additional services which are available for an extra charge include Virtual Phone Numbers, Toll-free numbers, and Fax Line service.

Ease of Installation/Setup:  

Like other VoIP telephone services, you’ll need to have a broadband internet connection established before setting it up. Plug the telephone adapter into the broadband modem and plug your phone into the adapter. Once completed you place and receive calls just like a traditional phone service.

Help/Support:  

At first glance, Voipgo’s web site appears simplistic and uninformative, but push just a little further into the small print headings near the top of the page and you’ll find just about all the information you could want. There is an unusually complete and useful set of Frequently Asked Questions. Clicking Contact Us reveals instructions for contacting the company by email as well as a toll-free phone number. Customer Service hours of operation are pretty limited but there is an email option for emergencies and the site indicates that you’ll be contacted in response to such email.

While not in general a stand out service, voipgo provides all of the services that we’ve come to expect from a VoIP provider at a good price. If your regular calling pattern doesn’t include calls to Puerto Rico or overseas countries, this service is worth considering.
